There are few graduate opportunities that can offer the same range of interesting and diverse work as Innovia. Our consultants typically work on two to four projects at a time, with each lasting between two and six months.
The work our consultants do is remarkably varied. You’ll find yourself working in multidisciplinary project teams across many industries to help our clients with their innovation challenges. All of our consultant roles are client facing. We don’t work on client sites for long periods of time, but consultants get the opportunity to travel to meet clients in Europe, the USA, and elsewhere a few times a year.
Choice of career path and progression in the longer term are based on your aspirations and interests. Most consultants take on many roles at Innovia including:
Consultants typically progress through these roles over time.
We offer a comprehensive training programme to all new recruits to make it easier to bridge the gap between studying and consultancy. Over the first two years, training includes modules in innovation, business, written and verbal communication, working effectively with other disciplines, and project management. And training doesn’t stop there – more established consultants have access to a range of advanced courses through our continuous development scheme.
The Candidate:
We look for candidates from a range of disciplines, including physics, engineering, chemistry, life sciences, design, behavioural science, and materials science. Candidates will need to demonstrate:
Technical ability: a strong understanding of the fundamental principles of their discipline, and the ability to apply them to unfamiliar problems, as evidenced by an exceptional academic track record. Wide curiosity and interest and the ability to quickly learn about new areas of technology are also vital.
Problem-solving skills: the ability to think about complex topics in a clear and structured way, and take a creative approach to exploring new solutions. Consultants must be comfortable with the level of ambiguity and uncertainty inherent in front-end innovation.
Client-facing skills: excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, and an interest in the work of our clients. Consultants are expected to be able and willing to travel internationally.
Team skills: the ability to engage well with a team, and contribute to complex technical discussions. Consultants will take responsibility for their own work and time, and need to be proactive, show attention to detail, and work to deadlines.
