Job Description

Hide Biotech is looking for a material scientist or engineer who is ambitious and ready to take on the exciting journey of Hide’s early growth. Leather wholesale is a massive $100 market with 5% CAGR. Fashion designers are constantly seeking more sustainable leather-like materials that, without compromising on quality, have better environmental credentials. We are developing a collagen-based biomaterial which is structurally identical to real leather. A technical proof-of-concept has been produced with a received pre-seed funding and we are currently raising a seed-round investment of £1M with 500k committed. We expect you to be result-driven, detail-oriented, and can take responsibility for leading a product design work stream.

Your core responsibilities are:
- Discover and implement new technologies and further develop existing technologies of collagen-based biomaterials that yield competitive advantage;
- Conduct, analyse, and report mechanical/chemical performance of samples;
- Explore and evaluate creative methods to improve material performance;
- Scope, monitor and report for work packages and ensuring timely deliverables of good quality;
- Build quality assurance and processes;
- Ensure all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards.

- Ph.D. in material science/engineering/chemistry or equivalent experience 
- Previous experience in material characterization and testing.
- Sufficient understanding of organic chemistry;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience in working in a team environment;
- Experience in textile manufacturing is a plus;
- Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
