Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security, R(D)SVS

Full time, 35 hours per week

1 April 2021 till 30 September 2021

We are looking for a Research Fellow to work on development of the Cool Farm Tool (a science-based agricultural greenhouse gas calculator used widely in the food and drink industry) for tropical perennial crops.

The Opportunity

As part of an NERC funded Innovation project a post-doc position is available at the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security to develop and pilot a forthcoming “Perennial Crops” module of the Cool Farm Tool (www.coolfarmtool.org). The Cool Farm Tool is a science-based decision support tool for farmers to assess the environmental impacts of their own production practices. It is supported by many major global food and drink brands who use the tool within their supply chains.

The work will build on a previous NERC funded project which developed models to account for biomass carbon storage in perennial crops to produce a prototype tool to pilot on several tropical perennial crops including coffee and cacao. This will be supported with case studies with project partners who will support the post-holder in providing access to data.

Your Skills And Attributes For Success

  • A strong quantitative background with experience in software development.
  • Comfortable working with project partners and coordinating the case studies.
  • Previous experience working on tropical perennial crops such as coffee and cacao would be an advantage but not essential
