Job Description

CDT has a mission to identify novel materials and demonstrate their potential to create new business opportunities for our parent company, Sumitomo Chemical Company (SCC). There is an opportunity for a Scientist to join our research team to make an important contribution to our research.

 

The vacancy is within the Materials Science team where you will gather multi-instrumental characterisation data of novel materials and provide high quality analysis and interpretation to contribute to understanding how their purity and properties correlate to their performance in applications. This role will involve collaborating with CDT’s multifunctional technical team.

 

You will be qualified to PhD level in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Analysis, or a related subject, or with equivalent work experience, preferably with additional experience gained in a material science or analytical role in industry or academia. Proven expertise in characterisation of materials and identification of impurities by liquid chromatographic techniques, including LC-MS and HPLC, is required, coupled with demonstrable experience of detailed interpretation of analytical chemistry results and data to draw clear conclusions and recommendations. A working knowledge of other analytical techniques would be advantageous. Additionally, you will have an inquiring mind with an interest in the link between materials properties and technical targets, coupled with an ability and desire to acquire new skills.
